John Jacobs was christened in Milston church on the 16th September 1798, the son of an earlier John Jacobs and his second wife Jane nee Green.

Mary Ranger was christened in Figheldean church on the 28th August 1791, the daughter of Thomas Ranger and Sarah nee Carter.

John Jacobs (written as ‘Jacob’) married Mary Ranger in Figheldean on 29 Dec 1821. Neither could write their name, and both made an X mark on the register page.

John Jacobs was an agricultural labourer (i.e. farm worker) all his life.

The couple had four children:

Henry Jacobs christened in Figheldean 23rd July 1822, although census returns say he was born in Tidworth. He too was a farm labourer, and lived in Figheldean all his life. He married Hannah Dudman in 1858, and died in january 1898.

Thomas Jacobs, baptised in Figheldean 18 June 1826. Our great grandfather.

Jane Jacobs, baptised 7 August 1831 in Figheldean. She married Jacob Sheppard in September 1849, and is the great grandmother of (third) cousin Lila

Mary (Ranger) Jacobs died of influenza in Figheldean on 23rd February 1858.
She was buried in Figheldean on February 28th.

John Jacobs died in Amesbury Union House on 13th March 1865, of ‘Scrofulus abscesses and rheumatism’. He was buried in Figheldean on March 13th
